Riverbank Preservation

Delran is our home, we need to protect it. The Harbor District and Riverside Park areas of Delran have been facing erosion issues for many years. The concerns and frustration of our neighbors have been at the forefront of our minds.

After 12 years of contacting and requesting assistance from the Army Corps of Engineers, we are finally connected. The Army Corp has decided that the concerns warrant their involvement and they are currently studying the riverbank issues that threaten the sewer plant and the residents in the Riverside Park section of Delran.

We continue to look at new ways to mitigate the flooding issues in Riverside Park moving forward. While tidal storms will always present and unique challenges due to a rising water table, continuous improvements to infrastructure and other efforts will help. We have already seen improvement in the flooding at Stewart Avenue following the additional inlets and stormwater enhancements recently completed.

Fortunately, because of our level of experience working with the Office of Emergency Management, our first responders, and county and state officials; we are better prepared to respond to catastrophic events such as flooding. Preparing for the ongoing Riverbank erosion issues, and maintaining a fiscally responsible approach to managing the town allows us to better respond when the unthinkable happens. These events will continue to present themselves and we are ready for them.
